No, because you will have to activate and sign a two year contract with AT&T (which will bill you every month for AT&T) when you buy it in the United States. There’s NO way around this.

The iPhone 3G is approximately two and a half times faster (not quite the 2.8x that Apple advertised) than the old iPhone on 3G. It also has GPS that works anywhere in the world (since it uses Google Maps and not prestored maps).

from everything i have heard and read, you have to sign a 2 year agreement with at&t before you leave the apple/at&t store so i would say you cant bring it home to the uk.

the speed difference is really great. 3g is much faster, comparable to wifi speeds depending on signal. though you may not have 3g in your area where you work and live. if not, you use old 2g networks (slowww -first iphone speeds).

you should be able to get a 3g iphone in the uk if not now, soon. so i wouldn’t get the old one..

cant wait to get my 3g!! good luck with your situation :)
